T&S

So, in one of my more recent blogs I mentioned a new band I've been jamming to...

You know how you find a new song or group and you just think "Why didn't I know about this?!". Well, thats kinda how I feel about Tegan and Sara, the new group I've been obsessed with.

Its two identical twin sisters who have a really quirky, fun sound goin on.

I can't really explain their voices, they are different yet obviously alike in so many ways. Makes for great music, plus they write their own songs and lemme tell ya. . . . I'm diggin it.

Here's a few of my fav songs :)

This song is called "Call it off" (I couldn't post the Official Video). Sorry it takes a while for them to get into the song, but I personally find them hilarious too so if you don't like it... whatever :)

This is a live performance of "The Con". This is quite a bit different than the original song, but I liked the more punk feel of this performance considering I can't post the Official Video.

Also, if you get a chance check out some of their 'Video Chapters' they have on YouTube . . .it's sort of a sneak peek into their studio sessions for each track. Cool Stuff :)

Love em'!!

Stitches

Stitches
by David Small

I checked this book out the day before my LAST day working for the Library. Yeah, I've had it for a while. I didn't know what it was about except that a little boy couldn't talk. My boss said that David Small, the author had visited the library the previous year. I thought that was kind of cool, so I didn't return it yet... hoping I would get a chance to read it.

Well, the day finally came... I finished my last book and swiped this book off the shelf eager to delve into this silent boys world.

Then. I seen it.

What the HECK? The entire book was PICTURES--

Ummm.....

...............................................

.....................

Okay. That puts a "stitch" in things!

I set it back down, pissed that my plan was out the window.

Now what was I going to read?

A few weeks later I was SOOOOOOOOO bored on a Sunday. It was raining, I had already cleaned, homework was done, and I had no movies I wanted to watch for the billionth time so.... I picked the book up and decided to give it a chance.

The book is written in sort of a comic book style. There are words and sections of text, but mainly you follow with comic-like pictures. I finished this book in 1-2 hours.

It is about a young boy, who's parents are sort of, well.... for lack of better terms "fucked up".

Seriously, they are weird.
I still am processing the weirdness of this kids so called "home life".

Anyways, he gets sick and wakes up from the hospital with a vocal cord removed... basically he sounds like a injured cow when he tries to speak.

I couldn't imagine. How terrifying not to be able to speak after years of communicating like that 90% of the time. Sooooo frustrating!

Anyways, I'll tell you this... There is a pretty sweet little twist at the VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, end of the book. VERY end. NOT the last page... but the END of the book.

A little dark, on the edge of disturbing even.... but its a quick read and was perfect for my rainy Sunday read :)

The Book of Lost Things

The Book of Lost Things
by John Connolly

It took me 2 weeks to finish the first 40 pages of this book.

2 weeks for 40 pages.

That’s unheard of, in my world.

I fell asleep on numerous occasions. I never fall asleep when I read.

That being said, if you can make it through the first 40 pages… I promise it gets better.

It turns into a super adventure!

This book is a cross between the common fairy tales and a whole new story in a brand new land with a young boy as the leading role.

David’s mother dies at the beginning of the book. He goes through some hard times, and deals with things children shouldn’t really have to deal with.

I won’t give you the details, because you have to read it… but he enters a land filled with magic and good guys, but mostly it is filled with evil. He needs to find his way home and stay alive long enough to do so! He encounters enemies and friends along the way and overcomes many obstacles in his search for the answer that will get him back to his world.

The fun part is how old school fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and so many others are incorporated into this account of a little boy’s journey of loving, losing, and discovery.

So although it took me 2 weeks to finish the first 40 pages, it took me half that to demolish the rest of the book. Some parts dragged on a bit, but overall I liked it. I thought that was a great book, especially for those who love the traditional fairy-tale-esque type of story. By the end you feel a special connection with David. The author is amazing in ending the story, too.

Let’s just say, you won’t be left hanging. When you finish the book, it is complete.

The sound of white

I've been jamming out lately to Missy higgins.

I'm beginning to realize I am very weird with music, I absolutely love something and listen to it on repeat for weeks, sometimes months and then I stop listening to it altogether and move on to my next obsession. Eventually I come back to my favorites though, and it is always a warm welcome.

Missy Higgins is from Australia and I absolutely love the accent. Her voice is so beautiful, and her lyrics make every song she sings amazing. Not to mention she plays the piano and guitar, which I love as well.

LOVE HER!!!!

I definitely want to go to a concert of hers. Normally, I am not one to spend an arm and a leg for a few hours to watch someone sing.

BUT ....

SHE would be MORE than worth it.

If you havent heard her stuff, check her out. She is absolutely, 100% amazing.

Tico Tico

Since I have been so busy and had virtually no time to myself, my parents have been watching my parrot Chico. He is a White Bellied Caique and loads of fun. I am beginning to miss the crap out of that little bugger, so I figured I would blog about him today J
His name is Chico, and he is 2 years old. I purchased him when I lost my Quaker Parrot Petrie.

Petrie was older when I got him, but he loved me all the same. He however, ONLY loved me and would bite anyone else who came to close to him or me. He was my guard bird! When he passed away I was sad, but I had a huge cage with hundreds of dollars invested in toys and such so I didn’t want to see it unused or sold. That was when I began my search for another bird.
Birds make great pets for those who don’t want the responsibility of cleaning a litter box or taking a dog outside to potty, without sacrificing the kinship (ex. Fish). The newspaper at the bottom of the cage is not hard to clean up, and despite what some people say, birds are only messy if you allow them to be. They do require attention and love, but what pet doesn’t?

When I found Chico I immediately fell in love with him. The woman who had him brought him out and was rubbing his belly and he puffed his little cheeks up and fell back on her like a dog getting his belly scratched. I knew I had to have him. He was 8 mos old at the time with black still on his head, and he was weary of newcomers. I didn’t want another Petrie, I wanted a bird that was nice and would love everyone in my family. The woman informed me that he hadn’t been very well socialized but he was still young enough I could mold him and socialize him to be a more people oriented bird. For weeks I went to the shop and took fruits and veggies to allow him to see I meant well, and that he could trust me.
All the time paid off! He began coming to me, and by the time I took him home he was my new little love. But soon I found out all the research I had done that claimed these birds were “clowns” and “a handful” was true. Petrie was an old man compared to my new toddler!

Chico makes me laugh every day. He dances, and whistles, and sometimes I don’t know if his brain is all there because he acts so crazy! Either that or he knows when someone thinks he is funny, so he does it for our entertainment J
As all pets do, Chico has gotten a few nicknames.
My sister had a small parrotlet who was names Weezy. He had huge feet, so we started calling him Weezy Boots. Chico has similar feet (very big and awkward) so he has gotten the nickname Chico boots… sometimes we just call him boots boots, tico boots, little man, yiddle man (baby talk), or tico man. I think he likes it J
My parents love him too, and he loves them (which is a relief!). My mom has even begun to call him her “grand-birdie” which makes me smile. Sometimes I think he loves her more than he loves me L then I make myself feel better by remembering that my mother is just one of those people who all animals love. I think they may just sense her good nature and patience. I don’t know exactly what it is, but animals just love her!

I can’t wait to be done with school so I can have a regular schedule and get my baby back!!
I miss my little man, and I can’t wait to see him! He is a handful, but he keeps me smiling and feeling loved . . . and he is an only child for now . . . until I get my bully J
