I read this book in a week. It was quite easy to not want to put this book down.
It's the story of Portia de Rossi and her struggle with fame and her self image.
This was also my first E-Book (hence the reason I have no pictures).
Now, I had no idea what to expect from this book - except the reviews I read before purchasing stated it was a great book and she was a surprisingly great writer.
I will say I was pleasantly surprised.
I was bored one night, and wanted to start a new book - but I didn't want to go to the bookstore, so I thought I would try an E-Book. It was nice to be able to have the capability at my fingertips.
Another thing I like about the E-book is that it lets you read a chapter or so, before you decide to purchase.
I was hooked after reading the first chapter of this book, so I bought it :)
I thought this was a good book. It started with her moving to the U.S. and her getting the part in Ally McBeal. She took us through the struggle she's always had with her weight and her relationship with food, her mother... and ultimately how the industry she chose led her to become anorexic.
I felt her capability to tell the story and keep the reader interested (without feeling like... boo-hoo, you're famous and skinny. Poor you) was surprisingly good. As I got into the book it was almost as if you could relate with her - most everyone has something about themselves they would change - or someone who's made a comment that will forever keep you self conscious of something.... and I tried to imagine myself in the public eye - how often these celebrities get criticized, and if you aren't the right personality - how that could severely effect someone's life.
I felt it was worth reading. I wouldn't say it's the best book ever, but I enjoyed it up until the end.
The end was a bit too "and we all lived happily ever after" for me. I think she painted a smile over issues she probably still deals with on a daily basis - but I understand why she did it. After all, she is still in the public eye and has an image to uphold.... this way, she can tell her story and everyone things she is "better". lol
** I loved the E book.... most everything about it! I could even bookmark my favorite quotes! I will definitely be getting another. The only thing I didn't like about the E-Book was that I felt it may have kept me up some nights due to the light from my tablet. I also didn't like not being able to put it on the shelf like a shrine with my other books.... lol I told you, one day - I want a wall of books I've read on display :)
